Queensland Lighting Awards – Award of Commendation for Ashburner Francis
Congratulations to John Campbell and the team in our Brisbane Office for receiving an Award of Commendation at the recent Queensland Lighting Awards night held by IES – The Lighting Society.
The project awarded was the Griffith University Link Bridge University Bar,
Here is what the judges liked about our design:
The University Bar presents as a versatile space with distinctly illuminated areas within the space. The main space was effectively up-lit to provide a glare free space for student to study and enjoy a refreshment while still providing the feel of a relaxed space. Seating booths were provided with soft lighting that provided an intimate space and lighting around the pool table area provided a social space.
The augmentation of the existing lighting control system was well commissioned with pre-programmed scenes that the bar staff were able to demonstrate and describe when the scenes are used. This impressed the judges as it is an element where design intent is often not maintained after project completion.
This project demonstrated a commitment to co-ordination between the designer, architect and the end user and provided the space with lighting that was functional, comfortable and intimate.
The Uni Bar has also been named Building of the Year at the recent Gold Coast/Northern Rivers Regional Architecture Awards, as well as the Beatrice Hutton Award for Commercial Architecture at 2016 AIA Queensland State Architecture Awards. Congratulations to Push Architecture on these awards.
